If units lose HP in battle, they must heal in order to have a full HP bar. Ground units only heal in cities and non-city provinces with field hospitals. In cities, units will regenerate at a rate of 1 HP/day with the unit's health updating every hour unless the player builds a hospital. Hospitals increase healing rate by their level, i.e. a level 5 hospital increases the healing rate by 5 HP/day. Field hospitals allow a unit to regenerate 1 HP/day in non-city provinces. The unit does not need to be entrenched at the center of the province to regenerate HP. HP updates once every hour.
Units will also heal at a rate of 2 HP/day in coastal waters.
